Renowned artist Tapich Gloria Fletcher created Iyndhik the moon and Wini'henh the star 'The Lovers' for Ports North Cruise Ship Terminal redevelopment at the historic port in Cairns. The work tells the story of Iyndik and Wini'henh, of their courtship on earth and how they became the moon and the evening star in the sky, together, forever.
The cast bronze sculpture stands 1.75 metres in a garden designed to showcase the sculpture, allowing for interaction with the work for children and adults. The landscaping invites viewers to sit and contemplate the work on the ampitheatre lawn or on seating built from recycled timber from the old wharf. The artist's name means 'Black Wattle'. The plants and trees surrounding the artwork are native to her country in Napranum and the adjacent garden features many Black Wattle trees.
