In October 2010, Shanghai and Brisbane simultaneously experienced the same exhibition of 18 major installations of light-inspired and light-generating artworks from Australia, China and Europe. Light from Light explored the properties and metaphors of light, and the notion of libraries as sites of enlightenment. In Light from Light, eleven artists treated light as a medium, an energy source and a metaphor for illumination and knowledge. The highlight was a 6.4 metre high outdoor photovoltaic geodesic dome by Janet Burchill and Jennifer McCamley, which brought function into a luminous sculptural form, and referenced artistic and architectural histories. The artists who participated in Light from Light were: Janet Burchill and Jennifer McCamley, David Haines and Joyce Hinterding, Archie Moore, Eugene Carchesio, Pak Sheung Chuen, Josef Strau, Zhang Peili, Wang Gongxin and Lin Tianmiao.
